Brilio.net - President Joko Widodo has signed a derivative regulation of Health Law no. 17 of 2023, a year after the new law was passed. In Government Regulation no. 28 of 2024 concerning Implementation of Law no. 17 of 2023 concerning Health, there are provisions regarding the sale of ready-to-eat processed food with limits on sugar, salt and fat (GGL) levels.

As stated in article 194, the government limits the sugar, salt and fat content in ready-to-eat processed foods, which refers to products sold in restaurants, eateries or other food service businesses. Determination of maximum limits for sugar, salt and fat content will be coordinated by the competent minister. In addition, the government now has the authority to apply excise taxes on processed food.

"In addition to setting maximum limits for sugar, salt and fat content, the central government can determine the imposition of excise on certain processed foods in accordance with the provisions of statutory regulations," wrote the PP which was signed on July 26 2024.

The regulation also requires every individual who produces, imports or distributes processed food, including ready-to-eat processed food, to include a nutrition label on their products. Apart from packaged sweetened drinks, various other goods such as houses, fast food, tissue, cell phones, monosodium glutamate (MSG) or micin , coal, detergent and concert tickets are also included in the pre-assessment of objects subject to excise.

Currently, the government has only implemented excise on three goods, namely tobacco or cigarette products, ethyl alcohol, and beverages containing ethyl alcohol (MMEA). In response to this, you can start replacing the use of micin with other food ingredients. Apart from being excise free, this food ingredient is also considered healthier than micin. Here are nine food ingredients that could be a substitute for MSG, as reported by BrilioFood from various sources on Friday (2/8).

Comparison with micin.

1. Health.

Micin (MSG) can cause reactions in some individuals, such as headaches or allergic reactions. On the other hand, the natural ingredients above are generally safer and rich in nutrients that are beneficial for health.

2. Nutrition.

Many micin substitutes contain beneficial vitamins, minerals and antioxidants, while micin only provides taste without nutritional value.

3. Influence on long-term health.

Using natural ingredients as a substitute for micin can support a healthier diet, and help reduce the risk of disease related to consumption of sodium and food additives.
