Brilio.net - Bean sprouts are a very versatile food ingredient because they can be processed into various forms of cooking such as stir-fries, soups, or consumed as raw vegetables. Based on information from webmd.com, bean sprouts have various health benefits. These benefits include stabilizing cholesterol levels, preventing heart disease, and improving the body's immune system.
The availability of bean sprouts is very easy to find both in traditional markets and modern supermarkets. Some people prefer to grow their own bean sprouts at home to ensure freshness when they are processed. The process of planting bean sprouts is fairly simple because it does not require soil media, just using a cloth or wet cotton as the media.
The method of planting bean sprouts is done by placing green beans on a wet cloth which is then placed in a perforated container. The process of growing green beans into bean sprouts only takes 1 to 3 days. The challenge in the bean sprout processing process lies in the stage of separating the green bean skin which often takes a long time and uses a lot of water.
In fact, there is a trick to easily separate the skin of green beans from bean sprouts. This trick was shared by a netizen who is familiarly called Mbak Lik. Just use three tools, namely two basins and one strainer or plastic rice basket. These three tools are very helpful so that water usage is more efficient for rinsing bean sprouts later.
"The way to peel the bean sprouts is to make it quick and clean, like the people who sell them at the market," he said, as quoted by BrilioFood from YouTube/MBAK LIK on Friday (11/25).

Initially, bean sprouts must be soaked first in a basin of water. Mbak Lik also explained that to make the green bean skin easier to remove and lift, ice cubes must be added. Apparently, the cold temperature of the ice cubes can help the green bean skin separate from the bean sprouts. Leave the bean sprouts in the ice water for 15 minutes to 1 hour.

Then, prepare another basin and stack it with a strainer or rice basket. Place both tools in the sink. Pour the bean sprout soaking water along with the floating mung bean skins. Do not spill into the sink because the water will be reused later. Because it has been collected by the strainer, the mung bean skins will automatically separate from the water.

The water that has been poured into the basin can be returned to the bean sprouts. Stir a little so that the green bean skin that is still at the bottom can be lifted. Pour it back into the basin that is stacked with a sieve as before. Repeat these steps several times until the green bean skin is completely gone. This way, you don't need to add water many times, so it's more economical, right?
