Brilio.net - Banana leaf lontong is a typical food made from rice, cooked in a banana leaf wrap, and then pressed. The process of wrapping and compressing the rice gives the banana leaf lontong its distinctive taste. Well, this distinctive taste will be even more delicious when eaten with complementary menus such as opor chicken, rendang or satay.

In terms of manufacturing, the process of solidifying lontong is done by boiling rice that has been molded in banana leaves for hours. Without hesitation, many people usually boil it for 5-12 hours. This is considered to make lontong more supple and durable.

However, instead of boiling it for that long, you can use certain techniques to cook lontong so that it lasts longer and doesn't get watery. This trick was shared by YouTube user Yuna Fitrian in one of the uploaded videos. He admitted that he could get lontong that was fluffier, but didn't go stale and watery quickly even though it was only boiled for less than 5 hours.

Tricks for cooking banana leaf rice cake so that it is fluffier, doesn't go stale quickly and is watery.

Reported by BrilioFood from YouTube Yuna Fitrian on Saturday (6/4), the technique used is to use hot water. Yup, so the lontong that has been molded will later be boiled in boiling water. That way, the resulting lontong will quickly become fluffier and won't go stale quickly because it won't be watery.

For the further cooking process, first prepare banana leaves and rice that have been washed clean. After that, print the banana leaves in an oval shape. After that, fill it with rice until it fills half the banana leaf mold.

"So that the texture of the lontong is just right. Not too hard and not too soft," said YouTube Yuna Fitrian.

When it is filled with rice, pin the ends of the banana leaves with toothpicks or sticks that have been cut short. Do this process until the rice runs out. After that, arrange the rice cakes in a large pan. If it has been arranged neatly, immediately pour the lontong with boiling hot water.

"I use hot water so it cooks quickly. And more importantly, if you use hot water, the lontong will last longer and won't go stale quickly," he explained further.

So, after pouring hot water, boil the rice cake for 1 hour in a closed pot. If it's been 1 hour, the water will usually shrink. Add more water until the lontong is completely submerged. Then cover the pan and cook again for 1.5 hours. So, the total boiling only takes 2.5 hours.

When it has boiled, open the pan and turn off the stove heat. Then lift and drain the lontong. Let the lontong cool by itself. If necessary, you can drain the lontong in a standing or vertical position so that the remaining water drains away. Rice cakes don't water easily when stored. Then let the lontong cool, then it is ready to eat.

"It's perfectly cooked, fluffier, and doesn't go stale quickly," said YouTube Yuna Fitrian.
