Legendary food in Yogyakarta is often sold at night. One of them is Sego Teri Gejayan Pak Dul. This legendary culinary shop is open from 21:00 to 04:00 in the morning. According to the current owner, who is also Pak Dul's wife, Mrs. Subadyah inherited the business from her in-laws. His in-laws started selling in the 1970s.
"I have lived here since 1990. And my in-laws sell, because my in-laws are old and my husband asked me to take a break, sir, I'm the one selling. Meanwhile, his in-laws have been selling since the 1970s," said Subadyah.
At least Pak Dul Gejayan's Sego Teri has been selling for 40 years. The menu is rice, anchovies and jackfruit vegetables, as well as side dishes of your choice.
"My parents-in-law used to only serve what they could get from the market, so they changed things, but my mother always had anchovies. In the past, it wasn't that spicy, but why did you ask for it to be spicy and then didn't add it? It's always been like that on the menu, only you don't add spices," added Subadyah.
If you start cooking at 10 (morning), I'll use the stove, if you don't believe me, go back there. Use a stove, use a brazier. Subadyah admitted that she was afraid to use a gas stove. This legendary anchovy rice can be enjoyed at prices starting from IDR 8,000 per portion. In fact, when he first sold it, the price started at IDR 150 silver.
Now Teri Gejayan can consume 25-30 kg of rice every day. One of the characteristics of Sego Teri Pak Dul is the spicy taste of the dish. Initially, this menu was a family mainstay menu. Because he was bored with gudeg, he finally replaced the dish with vegetables plus spicy anchovies. Sego Teri Gejayan Pak Dul is located right at the Gejayan T-junction, Yogyakarta.
