Coconuts , especially old coconuts, have thick, hard flesh and are high in oil, and can be used for cooking. From main dishes to desserts, old coconuts offer a unique taste and texture that cannot be replaced by other ingredients.
One of the most common uses of mature coconuts is to make coconut milk, which is a staple in many traditional dishes. Coconut milk lends a rich, creamy flavor to curries, soups, and desserts. The process of making coconut milk involves squeezing the grated flesh of mature coconuts to extract the liquid. The result is a thick coconut milk that can be used in a variety of recipes, from spicy rendang to sweet coconut ice cream.
But before it is ready to be grated, this old coconut needs to be peeled first. If you buy a coconut that is still intact with the shell, you have to split it to get the coconut meat inside. Unfortunately, for some people, splitting this coconut meat tends to be difficult because it requires special techniques and tools, such as a large knife.
But a man who owns the YouTube account Focus Method once shared another way to split a whole coconut shell. Through one of the videos uploaded, the man revealed an anti-mainstream way to split a coconut shell in one tap. Instead of using a knife or sharp object, he uses a simple tool.
As reported by BrilioFood from YouTube Focus Method on Friday (13/9), the tool in question is a broomstick. Yup, a broomstick that is not sharp and slender can be used to split a hard coconut shell. However, for that to happen, you need to know the special technique first.
The method is, take one stick from the broom. It is better to choose a thick and round stick. After that, place this stick in the middle of the coconut shell that is to be split. When it is done, circle it to the middle of the coconut shell and hold the stick firmly.
