Brilio.net - Lontong is often used as a substitute for rice that is no less filling. Basically, these two foods are made from the same ingredient, namely rice. However, lontong is cooked with more water content so that the texture is denser and softer.
To produce a dense texture, lontong must be cooked for a long time. After being molded, the rice must be boiled for 1-2 hours. Unfortunately, this makes some people think twice when they want to make their own lontong at home. The long boiling process also wastes LPG gas.
In fact, the duration can be shortened if using a special method. There are several special techniques that can be done to boil lontong that is soft, dense, and still saves gas.
A YouTube user named Ayesha Salsabila once shared a trick for boiling lontong in a short time. Through one of the uploaded YouTube Shorts videos, she claimed to be able to boil lontong in just 5 minutes. However, the resulting lontong remains dense and soft because it is boiled with a number of special tricks.
As reported by BrilioFood on Tuesday (24/9), the first thing to do is to prepare rice that has been washed clean. Then put it in a rice cooker and add enough water. If so, cook the rice as usual in the rice cooker .

After the rice is cooked, let it sit for a while until it is warm. Then prepare the mold that will be used. In the video, he uses banana leaves to mold and wrap his lontong.

Now, take two ladles of rice and place them on the banana leaf. Press and compact the rice using the banana leaf. Then roll the banana leaf while pressing it so that the rice inside is more compact. Once done, wrap the banana leaf and secure both sides using a stick.

Next, boil water in a pan. When it boils, immediately put the rice cake into the pan. Continue boiling for 5 minutes, starting from when the water boils again (when the rice cake has been put in).

When boiling lontong, make sure the pan is covered. Then after 5 minutes, turn off the stove and let it sit for 30 minutes with the pan still covered. Well, this stage will make the lontong continue to cook and be soft because the high water temperature will continue the boiling process.
Well, after letting it sit, immediately open the lid of the pan and lift the lontong. It is better to let the lontong cool down first so that the texture becomes denser. Only then is the lontong ready to eat. When cut, the texture of the lontong looks dense and soft. Guaranteed to increase appetite.
