How to clean dirty cooking oil.

Cleaning dirty cooking oil so it can be reused requires several steps to ensure the oil is safe and of good quality. Here are some methods you can try.

1. Basic filtering.

- Let the cooking oil cool after use.
- Use a muslin cloth, clean cotton cloth, or filter paper (coffee filter) to filter food residue and large particles.

2. Sedimentation and re-filtration.

- Let the oil cool and let it sit for several hours or overnight so that the particles settle to the bottom of the container.
- Once the particles have settled, slowly pour the oil into another container, leaving the sediment at the bottom of the first container.

3. Using activated charcoal.

- Let the oil cool.
- Add activated charcoal to the oil (about 1 tablespoon of charcoal for every 1 liter of oil).
- Heat the oil and activated charcoal at low temperature for about 30 minutes. Stir periodically.
- Filter the oil using a muslin cloth or filter paper to remove charcoal particles and other impurities.

4. Using potatoes.

- Let the oil cool.
- Cut the potatoes into several large pieces.
- Put the potato pieces in the oil and heat until the potatoes turn brown. The potatoes will absorb the odors and dirt in the oil.
- Remove the potatoes and filter the oil using a cloth or filter paper.

5. Store oil that has been cleaned.

- Store the cleaned oil in a clean and dry container.
- Make sure the container is tightly closed to prevent air from entering which can speed up the oxidation process.
- Store in a cool and dark place.

Additional tips.

- Avoid using oil that has been used many times because the quality will decrease and can be dangerous for health.
- If the oil has changed color to very dark or has a rancid smell, you should not use it again.

By following these steps, you can extend the life of cooking oil while maintaining its quality and safety.
