Hello Brilio Friends,
Kotagede has long been known as the old city, the former capital of the Islamic Mataram Kingdom. As the former capital during the Panembahan Senopati government, Kotagede has left behind a historical legacy that can be seen from its architecture, social and cultural life and culinary delights. The unique culinary delights of the past are still preserved and are a specialty of Kotagede. One of the culinary legacies of the Mataram Kingdom that we can still see today is hibiscus flower bread. This bread, inspired by waru tree flowers, was a favorite snack for the Mataram royal family at that time.
As time goes by, waru flower bread can be enjoyed by the general public and bought and sold freely. In Bumen village, Kotagede, there is a center for making hibiscus bread. One of the creators and preservers of the culinary heritage of the Mataram kingdom is Basiran Basis Hargito. Since 1983, Pak Bas has been involved in the business of making this unique bread. Still maintaining the traditional way of baking is the characteristic of his waru flower bread.
