Brilio.net - As the main source of carbohydrates, white rice provides the energy the body needs to be active throughout the day. Although popular and liked by many people, white rice is also often in the spotlight, because of its high calorie content and glycemic index which can affect blood sugar levels.

However, with various ways of processing and choosing the right portion, white rice can still be part of a healthy and balanced diet. Basically, there is a special trick that can be done when cooking rice to reduce the calorie content in it. No half measures, the calories in white rice can be reduced by up to 50% if cooked properly.

A chef and counter creator named Aaron Laksana through one of his uploads on Instagram showed his trick. Reported by BrilioFood from the Instagram account @aaron_laksana on Monday (12/8), Chef Aaron admitted to adding three kitchen ingredients when cooking rice, namely coconut oil, pandan leaves, and bay leaves. These three kitchen ingredients can reduce the calorie content of white rice.

How to use it is also quite easy. Prepare white rice , then wash it clean. After that, move it to the inner pot or rice cooker pan. Then add water with the same amount as when cooking regular rice. Next, add 3 bay leaves that have been washed clean.

"This bay leaf is really good for maintaining the body's immune system and for maintaining blood sugar. It can also lower cholesterol," explained Chef Aaron.

If you have added bay leaves, add 2 tablespoons of coconut oil. It is better to use pure coconut oil or VCO (Virgin Coconut Oil). After that, add a piece of pandan leaf that has been tied to make it more fragrant.

Now, the rice that has been given additional ingredients can be stirred directly. Then move the inner pot into the rice cooker, then cook the rice as usual until cooked. Later, the rice that has been cooked and become rice can be consumed immediately or cooled first to be healthier.

"So according to research, coconut oil is really good when cooked together with rice because it can cut up to 50% of the calories in rice," explained Instagram @aaron_laksana further.

According to the Journal of Food Nutrition reported from journal.ipb.ac.id, cooking rice with a little coconut oil, then cooling it before consumption, can significantly reduce the number of calories available. This process works by changing the structure of the starch in rice into a form that is more resistant to digestion, known as resistant starch.

Resistant starch is not easily broken down by human digestive enzymes, so the body absorbs fewer calories from the rice. When rice is cooled after being cooked with coconut oil, its resistant starch content increases. This will make the rice lower in calories, compared to rice that is cooked the usual way and consumed immediately while warm.

Viewed more than 433 thousand times, this upload about rice cooking tricks immediately attracted the attention of netizens. Many other Instagram users also gave direct responses in the comments column. Many expressed their gratitude for getting new, useful knowledge.
