Brilio.net/en - As an achievement for the nation, the University of Indonesia (UI) is the only university in Indonesia which is included on the list of 100 best universities in Asia at number 79.
Worldwide, UI is the only university in Indonesia included on the worlds best list and placed at the 310th ranking, said the head of UI public relations and public information openness, Riffelly Dewi Astuti, Monday.
She said that the ranking was based on an assessment conducted by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Ranking in 2014/2015 of more than 800 universities in the world.
Down to the specifics, UI was ranked 301 in the world for studying medicine and ranked at 200 for studying social sciences and management.
Felly said that the achievement does not only belong to UI, but it was also a national achievement as it is hoped that it will spur improvements in educational quality in Indonesia.
UI has set a vision to be an independent and excellent university where graduates and faculty be able to step up and solve national and global challenges, she said.
According to Felly, there have been significant improvements over the years across the board, from journal publications, organization of human resources, to the promotion of culture by exposing students to the international stage.
This effort is also in line with government programs to improve the high quality of education, research, and innovation to support the nations competitiveness, she said.
The QS World University Rankings used six parameters in its ranking system: academic reputation (40%) used to determine the overall academic elements, future employers reputation (10%) used to measure the quality of university educators, faculty/student ratio (20%) used to evaluate the progress of learning and teaching process in the university, citations per faculty (20%) is used to measure the research conducted by academic students, proportion of international students (5%) and foreign educators (5%) is used to determine the proportion of international residents within the university.
