His father, Agus Sugiarto, is the instructor of the students association for environmental and adventure activities in several high schools. Agus said that Arya had been climbing mountains before he could walk. Agus usually climbed mountains while carrying Arya who was 8 months old at that time. When he was 3 years old, Arya began refusing to be carried and he climbed mountains by himself.

As an incentive, Arya was promised that he would be invited to climb Mount Cereme after he recovered. Finally, on his fifth birthday in December 2010, his father invited Arya to climb Mount Cereme.

After completing his first hike, he was even more passionate to climb other mountains. At the end of 2011, his father decided to hold the Cahaya Merdeka Expedition 2011, in which he would attempt to reach the peak of 9 mountains within 3 months from May to August. 2011

After the success of climbing Mount Cereme, , their next destination was to climb the peak of Mount Slamet (3.432 m.a.s.l) in Purbalingga, Central Java, followed by climbing Mount Sindoro (3.155 m.a.s.l) in Temanggung, and then Mount Wonotirto (2000 m.a.s.l)

Afterwards they continued onwards to climb Mount Lawu (3.265 m.a.s.l), Mount Rinjani (3.726 m.a.s.l), Mount Agung (3.124 m.a.s.l), Mount Welirang (3,156 m.a.s.l), Mount Arjuno (3.339 m.a.s.l), and last but not least, was Mount Semeru (3.676 mdpl) which is the highest peak in Java.

Through all his journeys, Arya rarely complains that he feels tired. He always keeps on pushing towards the summit and surely through numerous difficult terrains. Aryas father admits that all the mountain climbing has brought a positive influence on Arya.

He is more mature and controlled emotionally. Obviously, he cares a lot about nature and its cleanliness, said Agus.

Next up? Arya and his father dreams to conquer the summit of Mount Jayawijaya in Papua.
