Brilio.net - The month of Ramadan is a month full of blessings in which there are various acts of worship, one of which is zakat fitrah. Zakat fitrah must be paid by every Muslim who is able as a form of self-purification after carrying out the fast. In addition, zakat fitrah also functions to help those in need, so that the happiness of Eid al-Fitr can be felt by all groups.
In Islam, zakat fitrah has rules that have been set, both in terms of the time of implementation, the amount of zakat, and the method of payment. Generally, zakat fitrah is issued in the form of staple foods such as rice, wheat, or dates in certain amounts. However, some scholars allow the payment of zakat fitrah in the form of money that is equivalent to the staple foods.
Zakat fitrah also has provisions regarding who is obliged to pay it. A family head is responsible for paying zakat fitrah for himself and his dependent family members, including his wife, children and dependent parents. Therefore, understanding the procedures and intentions of zakat fitrah is important so that this worship can be carried out correctly according to Islamic law.

1. Determining the amount of zakat
Zakat fitrah is generally determined as one sha' (around 2.53 kg) of staple foods consumed daily in the area. If paid in cash, the value is adjusted to the price of the staple food.
2. Payment time
Zakat fitrah can be paid since the beginning of Ramadan, but it is recommended to be paid before the Eid prayer. If paid after the Eid prayer, then the law becomes ordinary charity and does not cancel the obligation of zakat fitrah.
3. Distribute zakat to those who are entitled to it
Zakat fitrah must be given to those who are entitled to receive it, namely the poor and needy who do not have enough for their daily basic needs.
Intention of Zakat FitrahThe intention of zakat fitrah is read when giving zakat, either in the form of staple food or money. Here are some examples of the intention of zakat fitrah:
Intention for yourself
-Nawaitu an ukhrija zakatal fitri 'an nafsi fardhan lillhi ta'l.
(I intend to pay zakat fitrah for myself as an obligation because of Allah Ta'ala.)
Intention for Family (Wife and Children)
Nawaitu an ukhrija zakatal fitri 'an zaujati wa auladi fardhan lillhi ta'l.
(I intend to pay zakat fitrah for my wife and children as an obligation because of Allah Ta'ala.)
Intentions for all family members who are covered
Nawaitu an ukhrija zakatal fitri 'anni wa 'an jami'i man throne wilayati fardhan lillhi ta'l.
