Four Indonesian sambals are on TasteAtlas' list of the most delicious sauces.

Indonesian cuisine has once again stolen the world's attention! This time, TasteAtlas , a platform known for its traditional food reviews, has released a list of the 50 most delicious sauces, and four sambals from Indonesia have made it into the list. Interesting, isn't it?

Among these sambals, terasi sambal ranks 25th with a score of 4.4 out of 5. This sambal is not only popular in Indonesia, but also in Malaysia. Terasi sambal is made from a mixture of red chilies and shrimp paste, which are the main ingredients.

Next, there is sambal from Java which scored 4.3 and is in 33rd position. This sambal is quite simple, using only chili and salt as the main ingredients.

Sometimes, this sambal is also added with lime juice, onion, sugar, ginger, shrimp paste, or vinegar to give a variety of flavors. In the traditional way, this sambal is processed using a mortar, resulting in a thick consistency and strong flavor.

"A wide variety are available in Asian food markets and international stores around the world. Sambal is used in a variety of Asian dishes, usually as a spicy condiment, seasoning, or accompaniment served with meat, seafood, vegetables, or rice."

Pecel sauce is also not left behind! With the same score, this sauce is ranked 35th. Pecel sauce usually refers to a peanut sauce made from roasted peanuts and spices such as chili, brown sugar, garlic, tamarind water, shrimp paste, kaffir lime leaves, salt, and galangal. When served with rice, this dish is known as pecel rice.

Finally, tomato sauce is in 45th place with a score of 4.3. This sauce highlights the sour and sweet taste of tomatoes, combined with red chilies. The texture can vary from smooth to thick, depending on how it is prepared. The basic ingredients of tomato sauce usually consist of fresh red chilies, shallots, garlic, and ripe tomatoes.

This variety of sambal can be found in many Asian food markets and international stores. Sambal is often used as a spicy condiment, flavoring, or accompaniment to meat, seafood, vegetables, or rice.
