Brilio.net - Ice cubes play a very important role in various beverage and food preparations. In a glass of cold drink, ice cubes not only serve to cool, but also help maintain freshness and taste quality. Whether in a glass of fresh fruit juice, cold coffee, or exotic cocktails, ice cubes provide the perfect drinking experience.

Even in serving food, such as fresh seafood, ice cubes are often used to maintain temperature and freshness. The process of making ice cubes is not as easy as imagined. Although it looks simple, there are many factors that affect the final result of quality ice cubes. Making ice cubes takes a long time, usually taking hours.

The water used must be clean and free from contamination to produce clear and hygienic ice cubes. In addition, the freezer temperature must be set properly so that the ice cubes can freeze perfectly and not melt easily. The long duration of time is one of the challenges.

But do you know? There is actually a way to speed up the process of making ice cubes. A TikTok user @squillliams claims that ice cubes can be made quickly if the water used has a hot temperature.

As reported by BrilioFood from TikTok @squillliams on Saturday (12/10), the netizen then also practiced how to make it. He immediately poured hot water into the ice cube mold. Then slowly, he put it in the freezer.

TikTok user @squillliams further explained that this phenomenon is called the Mpemba effect. The Mpemba effect is a physical phenomenon, where hot water can freeze faster than cold water under certain conditions. So the hydrogen bonds in hot water are looser, which in theory can change directly to cold faster.

Unfortunately, this tends to be doubted by many people. Not without reason, not a few people think that putting hot objects into the refrigerator can damage this electronic device. No exception when making ice cubes. Therefore, many people choose to use cold water and wait for the water to freeze for a long time.

But is that true?

Reporting from thekitchn.com, Dr. Benjamin Chapman, a food safety specialist, professor, and head of the Department of Agricultural Sciences and Humanities at North Carolina State University, revealed that the assumption that 'putting in hot temperatures causes the refrigerator to break' is a myth.

The idea that food needs to be cooled before being refrigerated has been passed down through the generations, but it is actually based on old technology. According to Dr. Chapman, modern refrigerators work differently than the refrigerators of old.

Todays refrigerators maintain a constant temperature, whereas refrigerators from three generations ago operated differently. They would get warm, the condenser would turn on, and then cool the temperature back down. If you put hot food in a 1950s refrigerator, especially in large quantities, it could overwork the condenser and potentially damage the refrigerator.

Modern refrigerators are usually designed to handle the temperature increase caused by hot food. Refrigerators are now equipped with sensors and cooling systems that can adjust the temperature quickly. So, putting hot food in will not cause significant damage to the refrigerator.
