Basically, rust on spoons usually appears due to prolonged exposure to moisture or lack of maintenance. The oxidation process in metals, especially iron, causes rust to form which not only reduces the aesthetics of the spoon but can also cause health problems if left untreated. Many people do not know that rusty spoons can still be cleaned and sterilized so they often choose to throw them away. This is not only wasteful but also has a bad impact on the environment.
Removing rust from spoons is actually quite simple and can be done with ingredients that are easily found at home. Rubbing spoons with vinegar water is often done to remove rust. However, in some cases, this method tends to be less effective because if the rust stains on the spoon are quite thick.
If you want to be more effective, you can use a trick from Instagram user @rusfiadewi to remove rust from spoons. Through one of the videos she uploaded, she admitted that she only relied on simple ingredients found at home. As reported by brilio.net on Wednesday (1/1), the simple ingredients in question are dishwashing soap, toothpaste, lime juice, and baking soda.

Next, put all the ingredients in a pan and add water. After that, stir and boil until the water boils. When it boils and foams, turn off the stove. Then transfer it into a large container or basin.

Next, put the rusty spoon into the basin. If there are other rusty items, such as knives or scissors, you can put them in too. Make sure all rusty parts are completely submerged. Then let it sit or soak for a few minutes until the water cools down.

Once soaked, take a spoon and scrub it with a wire brush. Do this process until all the rust is completely removed. While scrubbing, you can rinse it occasionally with the soaking water. Then, if it is completely clean, then rinse it again with running water.

Avoid storing spoons in wet or damp conditions, such as in a closed dish rack without good air circulation. You can also add silica gel or other desiccants in the storage area to absorb moisture.
