Moldy and blackened bottle caps are a common problem in bottle storage. This happens when the bottle is often exposed to moisture or is rarely used. Mold that grows on the bottle cap not only makes it look dirty, but can also be a source of dangerous contamination for the beverage stored in the bottle.
In fact, mold on the rubber bottle cap can have a negative impact on health, especially if allowed to grow. In addition to disturbing aesthetics , this mold can produce spores that can pollute the surrounding air and potentially cause allergies or respiratory problems. Even if the bottle contains a drink, mold on the cap can affect its quality and taste.
To overcome this problem, it is important to routinely clean and dry the bottle cap, and store it in a dry place away from moisture. However, if the rubber bottle cap is already moldy and black, you must wash it until it is completely clean. Luckily, an Instagram user @zelinenaila once shared a trick for washing moldy and black rubber bottle caps that is effective in making them sterile.
As reported by BrilioFood from Instagram @zelinenaila on Thursday (8/22), the Instagram user admitted to only using one kitchen ingredient, namely baking soda. Well, this baking soda can effectively remove mold and bacteria that stick to the rubber bottle cap.
Once done, put the rubber bottle cap into a bowl filled with hot water and baking soda. Soak the rubber for a few minutes until the water temperature starts to cool. Then, lift and rub the rubber until the black mold stains are lifted. You can use a brush or rub it with a cloth.
