Brilio.net - Scissors are a tool that is usually used to cut various objects, such as paper, thread, cloth, and many more. However, with use, scissors run the risk of becoming blunt over time.
This can be caused by using scissors that are not suitable for their function. Apart from that, blunt scissors can also be caused by frequent exposure to water, causing them to rust. Thick rust also makes scissors no longer sharp.
A number of people choose to immediately throw away dull scissors and replace them with new ones. Apart from replacing them with new ones, there are also those who choose to sharpen scissors using stones. But sometimes whetstones are also quite difficult to obtain.
Don't worry, there are still tricks you can try to make your scissors sharp again. This trick was demonstrated by a netizen via the RIYADI family YouTube account.
In one of his uploads, he admitted that he could make dull scissors sharp again without needing to sharpen them with a stone. After investigating, he only used 2 simple tools and an additional kitchen ingredient to make the scissors sharp.

First of all, prepare all the tools and materials. After that, adjust the size of the sandpaper to the ice cream stick. If so, cut the sandpaper into the shape of an ice cream stick. Next, attach the sandpaper to the ice cream stick using glue.

The sandpaper attached to the ice cream stick is ready to be used. Take blunt scissors, then grease the blades with vegetable oil to make them slippery.
"Position the scissors with the blade at the top. Also prepare enough vegetable oil to lubricate the scissors," he said.

After that, rub the sandpaper onto the scissor blades. After sharpening, clean the remaining vegetable oil that is still stuck to the scissors.

After sharpening the scissors with sandpaper, the YouTube user also tightened the blade which was starting to loosen. He dismantled the scissors and replaced the bolt in the middle of the scissors with a nut bolt. After that, glue the bolt so that it sticks firmly to the scissors.
"Now we can adjust the density if we use nut bolts like this," he explained.

Next, the YouTube user tried using scissors to cut fabric and plastic. As a result, the scissors which were originally blunt are now sharp again like new.
"Even though it was difficult to cut fabric, now it's really easy," he concluded.
Since it was uploaded in October 2022, the video has been watched 230 thousand times. So it's not surprising that many netizens are interested in trying this trick.
"I want to try my scissors, many of them are blunt, I'll come back later, it works, so I don't need to buy them again, thank you, " wrote the account @galuhauliakastalani1215.

To care for your scissors so they don't get blunt easily, you can follow these steps:
1. Use wisely.
Use scissors only for appropriate purposes. Avoid cutting materials that are too hard or thick for the scissors' capabilities.
2. Choose the right material.
Choose scissors that are made from high-quality, durable materials. Scissors made of high-quality steel or metal are usually more resistant to wear and tear.
3. Regular maintenance.
Clean scissors after use to avoid buildup of materials that could reduce their performance. In addition, regularly sharpen the scissor blades to maintain their sharpness.
4. Store well.
Store scissors in a dry place and not exposed to excessive humidity or exposure to air. Also avoid storing it with objects that could damage the scissor blades, such as other metal.
5. Use on appropriate materials.
Make sure you use scissors that are appropriate for the type of material you are cutting. Use fabric scissors to cut fabric, paper scissors to cut paper, and so on.
