Brilio.net - Catfish are freshwater fish whose bodies have a lot of mucus . This mucus acts as a natural protector of catfish from infections and parasites that can attack fish. The amount of mucus in catfish can also indicate the quality of the pond water where they live. Clean pond water tends to reduce mucus production in catfish, while dirty water can trigger more mucus production.

The mucus on catfish does play an important role in protecting its health, but it is often a challenge when it comes to processing. The mucus is quite difficult to completely clean. Even after vigorous scrubbing or repeated rinsing, the mucus remains stuck to the catfish's skin. This makes cooking preparation more complicated and requires additional time for the fish to be completely clean before cooking.

Because the slime on catfish is difficult to clean, many people try various ways to overcome it. For example, using traditional methods, such as rubbing fish with wheat flour or lime.

Another solution to clean catfish slime is to imitate the method shared by Instagram user @ummubalqishaura. In one of her video uploads, the netizen replaced lime and wheat flour with food wrappers. Curious about how to do it?

As reported by BrilioFood from Instagram @ummubalqishaura on Monday (11/11), the food wrapper used is banana leaves. Make sure the banana leaves have been washed clean before use. If so, wipe and rub the entire surface of the catfish with banana leaves. According to him, banana leaves are effective in removing mucus and the fishy smell of catfish.

After being rubbed several times, the surface of the catfish becomes dry. There is no more mucus left at all. Then set aside the blood clots on the left and right edges of the bottom of the catfish's head. Because this is what causes the catfish to smell fishy.

Finally, rinse the catfish with running water. Once done, the catfish is ready to be marinated with spices to taste. Easy, right?
