Brilio.net - Yogyakarta is known as a city that offers a simple life with a relatively cheaper cost of living compared to other big cities such as Jakarta or Surabaya. This city is a favorite destination for students from various regions because of the many famous universities and a conducive environment for learning.
However, although often referred to as a city with a low cost of living, the reality is that living in Yogyakarta with a minimum wage remains a challenge for many people. Many people complain that with a minimum wage , they find it difficult to save even just enough to survive from month to month.
However, a man who shared his story on the TikTok account @masvaninspire actually proved otherwise. In his upload, he revealed the financial strategy he implemented so that he could still live decently. No half measures, he could even save up to IDR 1.5 million every month.

The first step he took to save money was to choose a cheap place to live. He rented an empty boarding house for Rp250,000 per month, which included water, trash, a shared kitchen with free gas, and WiFi. With these facilities, he did not need to spend additional costs for basic necessities such as water and internet.
" If you have trouble finding cheap boarding houses in Sleman, if you still can't find one, try the onsite method in narrow alleys, there are many in Jogja. Just search on Facebook, make a status ," he wrote in the upload.
Every month, he allocates Rp300,000 for basic needs. This budget is used to buy rice, oil, spices, instant noodles, soap, and other household needs. With

One of the main strategies in saving money is to cook for yourself. He uses the shared kitchen facilities in his boarding house to cook his daily meals. In addition to being cheaper, cooking for himself also allows him to control his spending better.
" I often cook in my boarding house because I take advantage of the shared kitchen facilities while gas is free. I limit my purchases of vegetables + tofu + tempeh to Rp10,000 per day ," he said.
In this way, he was able to reduce his food expenses to Rp200,000 per month. Sometimes, the amount spent was even less than that.

In addition to housing and food, transportation is also one of the main expenses. To save on transportation costs, he chose to use a motorbike with fuel efficiency.
Every month, he allocates around Rp200,000 to buy Pertalite. That amount is enough to meet his mobility needs.
" To buy Pertalite, it costs Rp200,000 per month. It only runs out a little because I use Mio, the fuel lasts really long ," he said.
Despite living frugally, he still sets aside some money for entertainment and emergency funds. He allocates Rp100,000 per month to hang out or play with his friends, but still limits the frequency so as not to be wasteful.
" The remaining Rp. 100,000 per month can be used as an emergency fund when you want to hang out or play, the important thing is not to do it too often ," he wrote.

With this strict financial strategy, he managed to set aside Rp1.5 million from his salary every month. Although the amount is not large, he is still grateful because he can still save compared to not at all.
" And... well, the remaining amount is Rp1,500,000 per month. It's a small amount, but at least it's better to save than not? " he said.
Although he managed to save regularly, he admitted that the amount of his savings was not always the same every month. If there was an urgent need at home, he could sometimes only set aside Rp1 million or even Rp500,000.
" But sometimes it's not necessary, if the house has urgent needs, at most I can only save around IDR 1 million or send around IDR 500 thousand. Sometimes it's Gen-Z, sometimes it's sandwiches too ," he joked.

Unfortunately, her story also drew various comments from netizens who did not believe the calculations she shared. Some questioned whether her living expenses could really be that cheap, especially regarding the cost of boarding and daily consumption.
" Are you serious, mass, just that much? " @akinnnnaaaa.
" Percoyo? Podo me Yo ora ," @ikhwannn_uuu.
" If it's for food, 10 thousand rupiah is enough for you, kale, tofu, tempeh, but I still have to eat it for a month, btw, by the way, it's so boring ," @irma.shahira.
" THE PRICE IS NOT IN ACCORDANCE WITH JOGJA STANDARDS, THIS IS A REALLY CHEAP PRICE ," @inisipuspaa.
