Brilio.net - As children from overseas whose lives are supported by their parents, some of them have to be smart in managing their finances. Moreover, if you don't have a side job, the money you need will only come from transfers from your father or mother.
Now what if you get a little pocket money from your parents? Automatically you are forced to live frugally and restrain yourself when you want to buy something. That's what this woman felt. Migrating to gain knowledge at college, this woman had to survive on a balance of IDR 50 thousand per week . The story was uploaded via TikTok @callmefreyaa2, Friday (3/5).
"Her parents really (really) gave her that much? Yes, mom, I can only give her that much, as I said in the previous vt," said the account owner, quoted by @callmefreyaa2, Friday (10/5).
In fact, it is not without reason why this student named Freya is only given an allowance of IDR 50 thousand a week. He was forced to live with this condition because his mother was a single parent. Her father has passed away, so this woman must understand his condition better.
Occasionally he was given more pocket money. However, that only happens if there is a super urgent need. If there is nothing at all to pay and her mother sends more money, Freya will usually refuse.
"Sometimes do you want to give me more (pocket money) or not? I want to. If my mother has more sustenance. But that's if the need is not urgent," he explained.
It turned out that the Rp. 50 thousand was not just for him alone. He also has a younger sibling who is both studying. Because of that, Freya always thought about how to manage the money so that it would be enough for two people.
He admitted that for daily consumption, Freya prefers to cook herself. Meanwhile, he brought rice from the village. With this choice, his frugal life is not too torturous.
Every week, he uses the money from his mother to buy enough food for a week. He will buy ingredients at cheap prices. Whatever it is, the important thing is that it can be eaten.
"If the raw materials are expensive, I usually just buy the cheap ones as long as I can eat them," said Freya.
He also never snacks on campus. To get around this, Freya always brings provisions that have been prepared from the boarding house. Every time she has the desire to buy something, Freya immediately thinks of her mother.
"Every time I want to have a snack, I always remember my mother holding back her desire to buy this or that for my college needs," he said.
While her friends have private transportation, Freya chooses to commute to campus on foot. It's not that far, he only covered a distance of more than 1 KM from the boarding house to the campus.
This student who studies in Medan said that he received a Smart Indonesia Card (KIP) in scheme two. This two-scheme KIP system only covers tuition fees, without helping with living costs at all. If you want to get living expenses, then someone must receive KIP scheme one.
"Yes, ma'am, but scheme 2 means only UKT is paid by the government." said Freya when replying to netizens' comments.
To meet other needs, Freya works part time on Saturdays and Sundays. That's when he earned extra money which allowed him to cover several needs such as photocopying assignments and so on.
Freya's frugal life story went viral and attracted the attention of netizens. Many people also gave encouragement to Freya. They also prayed that Freya would become a successful person in the future so that she could raise the status of her family.
