Brilio.net -

Recently, a tweet went viral on the X application regarding coffins entering Indonesia being subject to 30% customs duty. This was conveyed by one netizen via an account with the username @ClarissaIcha on Saturday (11/5). The tweet immediately received public attention. Moreover, customs duties have become a matter of public concern recently.

Previously, many netizens complained about customs services on social media. The case that has gone viral recently is the imposition of import duties of IDR 31 million on imported sports shoes worth IDR 10 million. Many people echoed this statement, because every day there are people who speak out criticizing the institution led by Sri Mulyani .

Including the account @ClarissaIcha, in her tweet, she said that she had just gone to mourn her friend's house, whose father had just left her. The deceased died in Penang, an area in Malaysia. The family asked that the body be repatriated so that it could be buried in Indonesia.

To @ClarissaIcha, the friend who lost his father admitted that he had to dig deep into his pockets so that his body could enter Indonesia. Customs officials said the family had to pay 30% of the price of the crate. This is certainly burdensome because the price of coffins - especially from Malaysia - cannot be said to be cheap.

According to @ClarissaIcha's statement, her friend had no choice. In the midst of the sadness the family is experiencing, they don't have the energy to argue with customs. So, the family decided to fulfill all the conditions given.

"I'm already dissatisfied with domestic health services, it may cost more. When you die abroad, you just want to be buried again," he cursed.

The tweet went viral and attracted the attention of netizens. It is proven that so far it has collected 3.9 million impressions. There were thousands of retweets and comments flooding the tweet. Many netizens also cursed at customs after reading @ClarissaIcha's tweet.

Basically, according to regulations, caskets cannot be charged any fees when entering Indonesia. This is based on the Decree of the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Indonesia Number 138 of 1997. If this story is true, then the customs authorities in this case have committed a serious violation.

Special Staff to the Minister of Finance for Strategic Communications, Prastowo Yustinus, commented on the widespread news about the imposition of import duties on coffins. Via his personal X account, Prastowo asked @ClarissaIcha to provide additional information. Because, in cases like this the problem must be clear so that it can be resolved.

Prastowo also said that the responses made by @ClarissaIcha were always normative and did not try to reveal facts. So this is difficult to resolve. Because of this, Prastowo asked @ClarissaIcha and other netizens not to spread stories that are made up.

"Miss @ClarissaIcha, we are still waiting for your good faith to provide additional explanation. Since yesterday BC friends have also been trying to ask for your explanation," he wrote, quoted by brilio.net from @prastow, Monday (13/5).

Officially, Customs and Excise also responded to the flurry of tweets. Via the website beacukai.go.id, Encep Dudi Ginanjar as Head of the Subdirectorate of Public Relations and Customs Extension said that the statement in the tweet was confirmed to be untrue. This was revealed after Customs and Excise checked the shipment of coffins from Penang, Malaysia. No import duties are charged or charged for import purposes.

"Please note that sending bodies from abroad to Indonesia is not subject to import duties and taxes," said Encep.

After an official response was issued by Customs, the @ClarissaIcha account provided information. It turns out that the previous tweet contained misleading which made people think wrongly. @ClarissaIcha finally provided clarification.

He said that what was collected at the airport was not from Customs and Excise, but from private parties who provided corpse management services. So this has nothing to do with Customs.

@ClarissaIcha also apologized for the commotion created by her tweet. He is committed to understanding the applicable rules and being careful in providing information.
