Former President and currentDemocratic Party Chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono released a book titled 'Twitter SBY:A Leaders Note In Social Media' on Sunday, during theDemocratic Party's National Meeting in Mataram, West Nusa Tenggara.
The book is a compilation of his tweets on @SBYudhoyono, since joining the social media last 2013 until now.
"Through Twitter,I have been communicating with the people of Indonesia and the world since 2013 when I was serving as a President [of Republic of Indonesia]," said SBY in Mataram, Lombok, Sunday.
The former president also saidhis reason to join the Twitter is tobe able to stay close to the society and to keep his words untwisted.
"Why do I go with social media? To [be able to] speak directly. Otherwise, [my words] will betwisted, not fully published. I use my political and democrtic rights to tweet," said SBY.
During the launching, he also shared his experience in using social media.
Many are unhappy (with me using the social media). For example, in the recent Jakarta Election, I was attacked, called names here and there. I ask you, is SBY allowed to use Twitter? Yes, he is, he said to reporters.
If people are not allowed to use social media, that will be the end of democracy. I support the President (Joko Widodo) to fight hoaxes and slanders as long as hes being fair.
Previously, the former president, with other Democratic Party members, staged and signed an anti-hoax declaration to fight fake news and misinformation.
The national meeting will take place until May 9. SBY is scheduled to present his views on preparation for the 2018 regional and 2019 presidential and legislative elections.
