Ins. Gen. Mochamad Iriawan has been removed from his post as Jakarta Police Chief and is replaced by Ins. Gen. Idham Azis who previously served as Head of Profession and Security Division of the National Police.
Iriawan was transferred to a new and higher position as the National Police Chief Operation Assistant that was previously filled by Ins. Gen. Unggung Cahyono.
The news has been confirmed by National Police spokesman Ins. Gen. Setyo Wasisto who asserted the mutation was a routine procedure and had nothing to do with any political interest.
"This is a routine mutation in the course of tour of duty and tour of area," said Setyo when confirmed by Viva.
A classified telegram no. ST/1768/VII/2017 released on July 20, 2017, stated that National Police chief Gen. Tito Karnavian has rotated a number of high-rank and middle ranking officers including Iriawan, Azis, as well as Unggung who was appointed as the new Logistic Assistant of the National Police.
West Papua Police Chief, Brig. Gen. Martuani Sormin, was promoted to Head of the Head of the Profession and Security Division of National Police Headquarters, occupying the empty post left by Idham Azis. The position for West Papua Police Chief was then filled by Brig. Gen. Rudolf Alberth Rodja from Profession and Security Division of National Police Headquarters.
