The government of India has revoked the passport of controversial Islamic preacher Zakir Naik following a recommendation from the National Investigation Agency (NIA) a central agency established by the Indian Government to combat terror in India which had booked Zakir Naik under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act for severalacts of terror.
Zakir Naik has been long wanted by his country for spreading terrorism propaganda and money laundering where he was also probed for spreading provocative speeches and hatred as well as inciting violence.
With the revocation made by the regional office in Mumbai, Zakir Naik now has no citizenship status.
It's been a long time since NIA investigated Zakir Naik's activities that allegedly encouraged youth to commit terror acts. The decision to revoke his passport was taken after he failed to show up for NIA's questioning.
Indian authorities' sources said that Naik has been traveling to several countries, hiding himself in Muslim-populated countries like Saudi Arabia, Malaysia and Indonesia.
The authority believed that the revocation will restrict Naik's movement as NIA has also approached Interpol for red notice against him.
NIA has gathered evidences which led them to some findings, including the involvement of Naik's Islamic Research Foundation and Peace TV in actively sparking religious hatred. The local government then waste no time to disband the foundation and ban the TV station.
In its investigation, NIA also discovered 37 properties and some multi-million dollar corporations owned byZakir Naik.
