In March 2017, more than 700 people joined Womens March Jakarta.
After their requests, the Womens March Jakarta committee along with Jakarta Feminist Discussion Group (JFDG) agrees to hold another event, Feminist Fest 2017, to let feministsexchange their ideas and experiences.
In a society that is becoming more closed-off as a result of strengthening conservative ideology, we need movement that is capable of opening up space for dialogue and fighting back against the gender-based oppression that has been covered up for so long, The Director of KAPAL Perempuan Institute as one of Femfests partners, Misiyah, said on a statement.
The event is aimed to encourage Indonesians to be a part of movement fighting for gender equity in the country.
[FemFest] Aims to provide in-depth knowledge about feminism and its intersectional issues. Feminism can help us achieve gender justice and rights, and aims to free all people so that they can make their own choices about what is best for them, Feminist Fest 2017 Committee Head Anindya Restuviani said.
Supports for this events coming from communities and NGOs, including KAPAL Perempuan, Koalisi Perempuan Indonesia (KPI), Peace Women Across the Globe (PWAG), Indonesia Feminis, Hollaback! Jakarta, Lentera, INFID, Aliansi Masyarakat Adat Nusantara (AMAN), Rutgers WPF, Klinik Angsamerah, Perkumpulan Keluarga Berencana Indonesia (PKBI) and so on.
