Jakarta Governor Djarot Saiful Hidayat suggested the government to not to move the capital from Jakarta.
Djarot said that rather than moving the capital to different island, it is better for the government to focus on developing Jakarta to be a better capital.
Moving the capital is not easy. It is not a simple thing. In my opinion, it is better for us to develop Jakarta to be a more proper capital, Djarot said at the Jakarta City Hall this morning.
Djarot emphasized that moving the capital might only waste the energy since Indonesia is an archipelago state.
Its not easy to move the Capital from Java to other island. Its different from Malaysia, [their transfer] is near. Its different from Australia. Its different," Djarot continued.
Djarot suggested to focus oncontinuing to resolve the traffic jam, the citys biggest problem through some ways including electronic road pricing (ERP).
We need integration between transportation systems, thats presidents order, whether it is between commuter line, Transjakarta, LRT and MRT, Djarot said.
I think if we keep on being consistent, then why shall we move the Capital? Djarot added.
The plan to move the Capital from Jakarta to different island has been voiced and it reportedly will start it in 2018 or 2019.
