Social media was abuzz with news of the wedding of the grandson of a kiai and memorizer of the Quran, Gus Zizan. The son of a pesantren family officially married young influencer Kamila Asy Syifa on Friday (4/10).
Their marriage became the public spotlight because of their very young age. Gus Zizan was recorded as only 19 years old, while Kamila was even less than 17 years old.
The controversy heated up after their wedding photo upload on Instagram received various responses from netizens. Some netizens questioned the decision to marry at an age that was considered too young.
"Stop normalizing the marriage of minors. Then what is the use of making the law? It's just made into a transcript??" said @azqa.aqillaqrn.
"What's the point of the government making a minimum marriage rule of 19 years? What's the point of being still underage to get married?" said @dump.exclusive.
