Brilio.net/en - Who hasnt heard about Leonardo DiCaprio? The 41-year old actor has starred in so many movies since his first appearance on the sitcom The New Lassie (1989) and gained his popularity since Growing Pains. But after 5 nominationsas everyone would have known from the millions of memes about him not getting an Oscar that spread around the globe for the past yearhe finally won.

Julianne Moore, who won last years best actress award, announced his name as the winner of best actor in a leading role for his latest movie, The Revenant. The other nominees were Bryan Cranston for Trumbo, Matt Damon for The Martian, Michael Fassbender for Steve Jobs, and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl.

Perhaps it was the effect of the mocking memes that made the audiences stand up and applauded a little longer than they had for the previous awards, but DiCaprios winning cheeky smile lasted the entire applause. But it took only a moment for him to compose himself before he thanked the Academy, congratulated his fellow nominees, and the wonderful cast and crews of The Revenant. He thanked some names, including his co-star Tom Hardy and Alejandro Irritu, who won best director for the same movie. He also thanked some people he considers important in his whole career in the industry.

DiCaprio ended his speech by reminding the audiences about global warming and the environmental issue for which he passionately fights for. And his beautiful speech had just won the hearts of many around the globe:

Climate change is real, it is happening right now. It is the most urgent threat facing our entire species, and we need to work collectively together and stop procrastinating. We need to support leaders around the world who do not speak for the big polluters, for the big corporations, but who speak for all humanity, for the indigenous people of the world, for the billions and billions of the under privileged people who would be most affected by this, for childrens children and for those people out there whose voices had been drown out by the politics of greed. I thank you all for thisamazing award tonight. Lets not take this planet for granted. I do not take tonight for granted. Thank you so very much, he said before leaving the stage, carrying his trophy home with a wide smile.
