Brilio.net/en - Sam Smith won the Oscaron Sunday(29/2) for Writing's On The Wall, the original soundtrack for the Bond movie Spectre.

In his acceptance speech, he made a reference to a last months quote by Sir Ian McKellen in which he questioned why no openly gay man has won an Oscar for the best actor before.

I read an article a few months ago by Sir Ian McKellen and he said no openly gay man had won an oscar, said Smith. If this is the case, and even if it isn't, I dedicate this to the LGBT community around the world. I stand heretonightas a proud gay man.

Okay, thats good. But not everyone was impressed with his winning speech. Smith didn't get the quote quite right. Turns out, he isn't the first openly gay man to win an Oscar.

There are previous openly gay Oscar winners include Sir Elton John, Stephen Sondheim, Bill Condon, Scott Rudin, and (as Smith was about to discover) screenwriter Dustin Lance Black.

Black, who is engaged to British diver Tom Daley, turned to his Twitter account to point out Smith's mistake in the grumpiest way possible:

And, of course, some reactions followed Blacks tweet:

And here's how Smith reacted after the ceremony when told he wasn't actually the first openly gay man who claimed the Academy Award:

On the followingMonday, Black added on his Twitter account:

Smith apologized to Blackon Mondayand dismissed the kickback without addressing the texting claim. But byMondayevening, Black settled the spreading drama by tweeting:

Okay, were glad it all settled. Next time, before you give an Oscar speech, make sure to fact check!
