Brilio.net - Kolang-kaling comes from the seeds of the aren fruit which is often found in various typical Indonesian dishes. Known for its chewy and refreshing texture, kolang-kaling is often used in various sweet dishes such as fruit ice, kolak, and sweets. In addition to being delicious, kolang-kaling is also rich in fiber, vitamins, and minerals.

However, one of the disadvantages of palm fruit is its complicated processing process. Not without reason, palm fruit has a pungent sour smell. This smell comes from soaking palm fruit for a very long time, so the smell is quite sticky and difficult to remove.

To overcome this, some people usually use spices, such as ginger, bay leaves, or pandan leaves. A number of these spices are boiled with the sugar palm fruit until soft. That way, the smell of the sugar palm fruit can be lost and replaced with the fragrant aroma of the spices.

But besides using spices, there are other methods that can be used in processing palm fruit. This method was once practiced by Instagram user @rastasav through one of the videos uploaded. He admitted that the trick used could make palm fruit odor-free and soft in texture.

As reported by BrilioFood from Instagram @rastasav on Monday (9/9), the method used is to soak the palm fruit and soak it for a few minutes. Well, to get rid of the sour smell, the owner of Instagram @rastasav chose to use rice washing water. Basically, rice washing water can neutralize the sour smell of palm fruit more effectively.

To be more precise, wash the palm fruit thoroughly with running water. After that, soak the palm fruit in rice water for approximately 30 minutes. The longer it is soaked, the sour smell of the palm fruit will disappear.

In addition to removing the sour smell, the soaking process in rice water can help soften the palm fruit, making its texture more chewy and soft. This is important so that the palm fruit has the right consistency when cooked in various dishes.

Next, lift and drain the palm fruit. After that, rinse again until clean. Once soaked, boil the palm fruit in boiling water for 15 minutes. Once done, lift and discard the water.

After that, fill it again with new water. Then boil the palm fruit again for 15 minutes. During the boiling process, it is better to leave the pan open so that the sour smell that is still attached can completely evaporate. In addition to being free of sour smell, the palm fruit that is boiled twice will be softer and easier to process.

In the video, Instagram user @rastasav is about to serve palm fruit with green bean porridge. However, to make it taste better, he cooks the palm fruit again with added sugar and cinnamon. After that, the palm fruit will be served on top of the green bean porridge as a topping.
