Pope Francis' new account was “christened” with a photo of him kneeling in prayer.

Brilio.net/en - Pope Francis once again surprised the Catholic community across the globe by opening his own Instagram account. People in the world are happily responding, as was seen with the astounding one million followers he amassed in only 12 hours.

As reported by CNN, his new Instagram account scores a new record for getting one million followers, while the previous records held by football legend David Beckham for collecting the same amount of followers in 24 hours.

Pope Francis' new account was christened on Saturday (19/3) with a photo of him kneeling in prayer. The accompanying message said "pray for me" in nine different languages:

Pray for me (English)

Rezad por m (Spanish)

Pregate per me (Italian)

(Arabic)

Priez pour moi (French)

Mdlcie si za mnie (Polish)

Rezem por mim (Portuguese)

Betet fr mich (German)

Orate pro me (Latin)

Now his Instagram account, which profile is named Franciscus, has attracted about 1.6 million followers.

While the account will be separate from the official Vatican account, it will be maintained by members of the Vatican. The Popes Twitter account is also maintained by his administration staff.
