Five days into the new year, the government has already increased prices forthree non-tax income sources: fuel, electricity, and vehicle licence fees.
As of January 5, state-owned oil and gas company Pertamina has increased prices by Rp300 per liter for all non-subsidized fuel types, while the price of subsidized fuels remain unchanged.
The new prices are as stated below:
Pertalite; Rp 7.350
Pertamax: Rp 8.050
Pertamax Turbo: Rp 9.050
Pertamina Dex: Rp 8.400
Dexlite: Rp 7.200
Solar NPSO: Rp 6.900
This recent price hike is the governments third price adjustment this year, the first being the electricity price hike, which almost went unnoticed. Starting January, the government is cutting its subsidy for users with a 900 watt capacity, who are deemed capable of affording unsubsidized pricing. The adjustment will be rolled out in several steps, taking place on January 1, March 1, May 1, and July 1. By July 1, other classes of unsubsidized electricity users will also see a price adjustment.
Apart from electricity prices, the government has also recently increased the price of vehicle licensing fees through Government Regulation No. 60/2016, implemented starting January 6. The increased rates differ for two/three-wheels and four/more wheels vehicles, ranging from to Rp25,000 to more than three times the initial fee.
Though it is not unusual for government to implement price increases, the three strikes is turning out to be a little too much for people to handle.
Chilis are expensive, STNK tax increases, fuel price increases.. Were really told to live modestly. For instance, using sarong on new years eve, said Twitter user @karlinaesari a soft jab at President Joko Widodos picture spending New Years eve clad in a sarong at his residence.
Cabe mahal, pajak stnk naik, bbm naik, emang kita disuruh kudu hidup sederhana semisal pakai sarung pas malam tahun baru

Another user, @destyriani, had a similar complaint, but raised a more important question. I cant focus this morning, watching the news it was all about price hikes for fuel, electricity, and STNK fees, she said. But when our salary will be increased, Om?
