Brilio.net/en - Acts of kindness can take many different forms. It can be carried out by giving directly to people in need or entrusting it to a particular charity institution.
Nowadays, there is a unique form of charity thats still not too common among Indonesians. This charity is called pending charity.
Pending charity is actually a simple concept. People who wish to carry out this form of kindness only needs to give extra money to participating vendors of goods or service providers. Afterwards, these vendors will then utilize the extra money as a full or partial payment for their goods or services to accommodate other people who cannot afford their goods or services.
An example of Pending charity can be seen in the story of Benny Andrians experience as quoted by brilio.net/en on Friday (6/8). At that time, Adrian was in a meatball stall together with five of his friends. Not long after that, Andrian saw two other meatball costumers coming to the stall. Both customers then ordered five bowls of meatball.
The two portions of meatball are for us and the other three bowls are for meatball pending, said Andrian imitating both costumers. Even though they only ate two portions of meatballs, they paid for five portions to the vendor.
Feeling curious about this, Andrian asked the seller what was meant by meatball pending. The vendor then told Andrian to wait for a couple of minutes.
Shortly after, an old and frail woman came and asked with her small voice, is there any meatball pending? The seller said yes and gave a portion of meatballs to this old woman for free.
This type of charity has actually been known for a long time, when it was first introduced in Napoli, Italy. It is a way of charity in which people pay more in advance to give food for people who cannot afford it.
This act of kindness can also be in the form of warteg pending, gado-gado pending, soto pending, and so on, said Andrian.
