President Joko Widodo has officially inaugurated Djarot Saiful Hidayat as the definitive Jakarta Governor, replacing Basuki Tjahaja Purnama for the remaining term of office.

The swearing-in ceremony took place at the State Palace, Central Jakarta and wasattended by a number of state officials.

The inauguration was preceded by the handover of the Presidential Decree on Djarot appointment as Jakarta Governor at Merdeka Palace, Central Jakarta.

Without the usual carnival found in every governor inauguration, Djarot directly headed for the State Palace on a golf cart to begin the procession.

Djarot was appointed under the Presidential Decree No. 76/2017 which also regulates Ahok and Djarot's dismissal as Jakarta Governor and Deputy Governor. Djarot will be Jakarta Governor for four months until October 15, 2017.

"In the name of Allah, I swear that I will perform the duties of governor to the best of my ability and as justly as possible, and that I will strictly observe the constitution and consistently implement the law and regulations in the service of the country and the people," he read the oath of the office.

Djarot became the third governor of Jakarta in the last five years. The current President of Indonesia Jokowi who won the Jakarta election in 2012, was replaced by Ahok as he advanced to the State Palace in 2014. Djarot was then appointed as Jakarta Acting Governor after Ahok was detained for blasphemy.
