The group has been linked to several attacks in Indonesia.

The United States Department of State has just put Indonesian Mujahedeen Council orMajelisMujahidin Indonesia (MMI) into the list of global terrorist. The U.S. considered MMI responsible for a series of attacks in Indonesia and has been linked to Al-Qaeda and Al-Nusra Front.

In the department's statement released on June 12, 2017, MMI along with Iraqi jihadist Marwan IbrahimHussaynTahal-Azawiwere included in the US' Specially Designated Global Terrorist (SDGT).

The department mentioned MMI as a terrorist group based in Indonesia and was formed by Abu Bakar Ba'ashir. Ba'ashirhimself, who was the leader of Foreign Terrorist Group andJemaahIslamiyahaccording to the department, has been on the list since February 2012.

The department said that the group has been involved in several attacks in Indonesia, including for the assault launched during Canadian reformist Irshad Manji's book launch inPasarMinggu, South Jakarta, in 2012.

Groups or individuals that are listed ontheSDGT will be subject to global financial sanctions. Their assets in the U.S. will be frozen and every U.S. citizen is prohibited from interacting with them. In addition, they will not be givenaccessto global banking and business networks.

The announcement itself was to notify the U.S. public and the international community that MMI andAzawihave committed and pose a risk of performing acts of terrorism.

To date, there has yet to be anyresponsefrom MMI.
