Brilio.net - A refrigerator is an electronic appliance that helps extend the shelf life of food and drinks by maintaining a cold temperature. The lifespan of a refrigerator is usually between 9-13 years, depending on its maintenance. Without proper maintenance, a refrigerator can experience problems in just 5 years.
One component that is easily damaged is the refrigerator door. A common problem that occurs is that the door is not tight, causing cold air to leak and be unstable. This is often caused by the door rubber starting to wear out. Over time, the rubber can become stiff and hard, and if left unchecked, it will easily tear and become perforated, resulting in cold air leaks.
The refrigerator rubber acts as an adhesive between the door and the refrigerator body, keeping the door tight and the cold temperature maintained. Therefore, it is important to keep the rubber flexible. If the refrigerator rubber is torn, don't panic. This condition can be repaired yourself without having to buy a new one.
An electronic appliance repairman once shared a trick to repair a torn refrigerator rubber. Through the YouTube account mandala electro, he admitted to only using styrofoam. Styrofoam or cork is used as a substitute for refrigerator rubber because the texture is similar.
As reported by BrilioFood from YouTube mandala electro on Wednesday (11/20), the tools used are only glue and a cutter. The method is also easy to imitate. First, cut the torn part so that both sides are neater.

Then measure the length of the cut part. Then cut the styrofoam or cork to the same size as the hole in the refrigerator rubber. In the video, he uses styrofoam with a length of 11 centimeters.
"So don't make it too thick so that it doesn't make the refrigerator loose, okay? We make it as thick as the rubber that comes from the factory," explained YouTube Mandala Electro.

If so, apply glue to the surface of the styrofoam that will be attached to the refrigerator rubber. In the video, he uses Castol glue. But basically you can use any similar glue. Well, after applying glue, smooth the glue using the remaining cut styrofoam.

Before attaching it to the refrigerator rubber, it is better to smear glue on the rubber. If it is dry, then attach the styrofoam or cork. Attach it while pressing so that the rubber and styrofoam stick firmly.

Once installed, close the refrigerator door. The refrigerator door looks tight again because the torn and perforated rubber parts have been patched. No need to worry anymore about the air inside the refrigerator leaking and coming out.
"As a result, it is tightly closed, yes. So the air inside the refrigerator cannot escape. And it makes the refrigerator's performance cold again," said YouTube Mandala Electro.
