Brilio.net - Recently, fish milk has become a topic of conversation in society. This comes from the government's proposal to replace cow's milk with fish milk as an alternative in the free nutritious meal program. Fish milk is considered a more economical and environmentally friendly solution than cow's milk , to meet children's protein needs.
However, many people are still wondering about fish milk because it is considered a new product. Not a few are also curious about the shape and taste of fish milk. Because, fish are not mammals that produce milk, like cows. Although the protein content in fish is no less high than the protein in cow's milk.
Well, to answer that question, one of the content creators who graduated from food technology named Dennis Guido and Andrea Novita experimented with making fish milk. Through their TikTok account, the two food technologists shared a video showing their action of making milk from catfish.
"Actually, this milk can be made from any type of fish, but we chose catfish," said Dennis, quoted by BrilioFood from TikTok @naktekpang on Friday (6/12).

Through three different videos, they both share the process of making fish milk which is quite long. First, fresh catfish is filleted to get the meat and blended until smooth. Once smooth, Dennis and Andrea arrange the fish meat in a baking pan and then dry it for 12 hours. So, this first process aims to turn the fish meat into flour.

Well, after drying, the catfish will be crushed and ground using a blender. After that, the catfish flour is processed in a laboratory with a special tool to remove the fat content. Only then, the catfish flour is extracted for its protein. There are several stages that are carried out until the catfish flour, which was originally brown, becomes pure white like milk.
"There is still the smell of catfish, but it's not that pungent anymore," said Andrea.

Well, this catfish flour protein extract is then formulated with a number of additional ingredients. The reason is, if directly dissolved with water, this catfish flour protein extract still looks cloudy. In addition, it tastes very savory and the fishy smell is even more pungent.

Therefore, this content creator wants to mix it with sugar and non-dairy creamer (not based on cow's milk). Well, when mixed with sugar, this milk still tastes fishy, although it tastes a little sweet. It's different when mixed with creamer, Dennis and Andrea admit that the color and taste are more similar to cow's milk in general. However, there is still a slight fishy taste left.
Not finished there, they both then added chocolate powder to the catfish milk that had been made. After being brewed with warm water, this fish milk became tastier and tasted sweet and savory. Unlike commercial fish milk which tends to taste more like pudding, according to Dennis and Andrea.
"The chocolate powder gives a vanilla flavor. When compared to commercial fish milk, catfish milk is tastier," Dennis said further.
