Brilio.net - Green beans are a highly nutritious food that is beneficial for health. According to healthline.com, green beans are rich in protein, amino acids, antioxidants, and iron. In Indonesia, green beans are often processed into green bean porridge.
Green bean porridge is usually cooked with brown sugar, coconut milk, and pandan leaves, giving it a distinctive sweet taste. Before being processed, green beans are usually soaked so that they are soft when cooked.
Often, mung beans are soaked for hours to achieve a soft texture. However, there is another technique that does not require soaking, which is the 7:30:5 technique. This technique involves boiling the mung beans for 7 minutes, letting them sit for 30 minutes, and then boiling them again for 5 minutes.
After that, the green beans are ready to be processed into porridge with ingredients according to taste. In addition, there is a faster way to make soft green beans. This method was shared by Eddy, a cooking content creator and participant of MasterChef Indonesia season 6.
"My friend, I have a tip for cooking green beans properly. So first we have to cook the green beans first, then we can put sugar in, right? If we put sugar in front, the green beans will be hard, they will never cook," he explained as quoted by BrilioFood from YouTube Eddy Siswanto, Thursday (10/23).
In his video, Eddy shows how to boil 500 grams of green beans. Well, the secret to boiling green beans until soft in a shorter time according to him is to cook them using a pressure cooker.
First, put the green beans and enough water into the pot. Then close the pressure cooker and turn on the heat. Boil the green beans for seven minutes, starting from when the pot makes a sound.

If it has been boiled for 7 minutes, immediately turn off the stove. Well, the key to making the green beans soft and perfectly cracked, it is better not to open the pressure cooker immediately. Eddy explained, you can wait for the green beans for 20 minutes before opening the pressure cooker so that the cooking process continues even without fire.

While waiting, you can prepare the ingredients to make green bean porridge. After that, the pressure cooker can be opened. Guaranteed, all the boiled green beans will have a soft and cracked texture. Next, you can immediately cook and mix the green beans with other ingredients according to taste.
