Deep sorrow enveloped the Indonesian entertainment world after the passing of Titiek Puspa on April 10, 2025. However, behind the sadness, there are unforgettable inspirational stories, one of which is the story behind her famous song, "Kupu-Kupu Malam".
This song is not just a melody, but a narrative that describes another side of the lives of night women with deeper nuances. Titiek Puspa managed to convey the message that not all entertainers choose that path of life willingly.
The inspiration behind the song came from an emotional encounter between Titiek Puspa and a woman who was forced into the profession due to difficult circumstances. In a video chat, Titiek Puspa shared her experience while performing out of town.
"I remember that time, after the show was over, someone knocked on my hotel room door. She said, 'Auntie Titiek, may I come in?'" she recalled. At that moment, Titiek Puspa felt a deep closeness to the woman, who turned out to be a night butterfly.
The woman told of her life full of hardships. "I used to be a wife, but my husband left with another woman. I was left with the children and didn't know what to do," she said. Titiek Puspa felt how heavy the burden was that woman had to bear.
After hearing the sad story, Titiek Puspa invited the woman to pray together. "I want you to know, there is a better way for you. Let's pray," she said. In that moment, they both prayed with their own beliefs, hoping that God would provide the best way out.
After the meeting, Titiek Puspa went home and wrote the song "Kupu-Kupu Malam" as a tribute to the woman. "Mus, I have a new song!" she said to her husband, Mus Mualim. The song became one of the most memorable works of all time.
Unfortunately, sad news came when Titiek Puspa passed away. Her manager, Mia, confirmed the news, and her daughter, Pety Tunjungsari, asked for prayers for her mother. "I apologize if there are any words my mother said that are uncomfortable. Please pray that all of this goes according to the will of Allah SWT," she said.
