The weird world of Showry

Some might even argue she is approaching it from a feminist perspective, making a mockery of the highly sexualized trend.

Brilio.net/en - At first glance, Showry seems like an exacerbated stereotype of the cutesy Asian girl stereotype. With her wide eyes and sleek black bangs, she has become an Internet sensation with her YouTube videos, in which she promiscuously eats the strangest things around, from raw octopus legs to creepy crawling critters.

With over 1,400,000 likes on Facebook, the South Korean performer has struck a nerve all over the globe. Her bizarre clips span a wide range of weirdness, but all are founded upon the famous South Korean Muk-bang trend, also known as the food porn trend where beautifully done up ladies sit in front of their webcams and eat. Yes, they just eat for the camera. These online eaters are not professionals theyre not chefs or food critics, but just your average pretty girl with a solid layer of mascara and a heavy appetite. The trend started in 2011 and has blown up in South Korea, with the participants becoming minor celebrities. Diva, one of the most famous such vloggers, was making up to $9,000 per month with her videos before she retired, claiming the Muk-bang lifestyle was taking its toll on her.

Showry has taken a more drastic approach to the trend. Some might even argue she is approaching it from a feminist perspective, making a mockery of the highly sexualized trend. In one of her most famous clips, she fills a bathtub with ketchup and empties out several McDonalds French fries and manages to get a few in her mouth in between her squeals of exaggerated excitement. In one her more macabre videos Under the Sea, she has squeezed herself into a refrigerator and is wearing a mermaid tail while passionately kissing a dead fish. Her revealing clothing matched with her high pitched squeals contrasts the weird and absurd behaviour, which is just the point shes trying to make. Maybe I am breaking the idea they have about Asian girls? Showry told the AAP.

Whether shes the queen of the Muk-bang trend or simply trolling the entire Internet population, Showry is still winning. People are tuning in daily to see if shes out-weirded her self in her new videos. A sarcastic and feminist response to overly sexualised vloggers or just another video weirdo, you be the judge.
