The magical benefits of coffee: A mood booster & healing drug

Some would like it mixed with milk, cream or foam, but black coffee never disappoints. Espresso, Americano or long black, you have it your way. But do you know that besides its fame of being the most preferred mood booster, coffee is also good for your health?

Despite the old indictment or myth that coffee might cause several diseases (which you may get from consuming cheap, instant coffee), the real coffee will give you significantly more benefits than you could have imagined. A research study proved that drinking two extra cups per day might decrease the risk of developing cirrhosis up to 44 percent. Cirrhosis is a liver disease brought on by drinking too much alcohol. The study in Southampton University, UK, had analyzed data on more than 430,000 subjects and the results proved that people who drank as much coffee as they pleased actually minimized their chances of a nonfunctioning liver.

A cup of coffee per day would lower the risk of cirrhosis by 22 percent, two cups by 44 percent, and the next two cups slowly taper off at 57 percent and 65 percent respectively. This data was taken from coffee drinkers and non-coffee drinkers. Still, you need to have your coffee done right to do this. Brewing by filter is proven to get better result than boiling, although the best brewing method is not mentioned. The data doesnt say much about other risk factors such as obesity. But if consumed without sugar, coffee can lower risk of getting diabetes.

As for other benefits of coffee, researches have proven that drinking 200 to 300 mg of caffeine (about two servings of 8 oz or 237 ml cup) can help the heart perform better by improving blood flow during rest, improving long-term memory. Drinking 3 cups or more per day is beneficial for women as it lowers the risk of getting basal cell carcinoma for women and gives more energy for a longer period of workout; If you can handle 4 cups, the benefits will include to lower depression risk by 20 percent as for 6 cups intake can reduce the risk of gout for men, lower the level of uric acid in blood. Finally, drinking 8 cups of coffee daily can lower 2 types of diabetes by 33 percent.
