Brilio.net/en - The Spanish just know how to enjoy life. From tapas at late dinners to siesta naps mid-day, the Mediterranean lifestyle is on that promotes an easy, breezy mentality. And according to this man, who passed just last week after 107 long years, the secret to a long and healthy life was found at the bottom of a glass of red wine.
Mr. Docampo liked to have two bottles of wine with lunch, and another two with dinner, his family told reporters. "He could drink a litre and a half all at once," said his son Miguel Docampo Lpez. According to his family and friends, he never drank water. From the northern city of Vigo, Mr. Docampo was a founder and owner of Bodegas Decampo, his own vineyard and wine company.
While we wouldnt recommend Mr. Docampos lifestyle for just anyone, we can recommend the Mediterranean diet, which has time and time again proven to have significant health benefits, such as protecting against diabetes, preventing heart disease, reducing the risk of Alzheimers, and even halving the risk of Parkinsons.
Alongside daily naps to promote rest in the busy middays, the diet consists of a wide variety of natural fruits and vegetables, seafood, olive oil, low levels of added salt and a good portion of healthy grains. The Mediterranean people arent ones to shy away from enjoying a good drink, and many believe that a glass of wine a day would keep the heart doctor at bay.

And maybe the secret isnt even lie in the foods they eat, but extends to the culture of eating with extended families and weekly feasts that can easily last upwards of three hours.
If we need the advice of Mr. Docampos nephew Jeronimo Docampo, who now runs the vineyard, we would all benefit from a little red wine, as he told La Voz de Galicia, a local newsource in his native Spain: "If he produced 60,000 litres a year he would keep 3,000 litres for himself. He always said that was his secret to living so long."
