In the hills of Tirupati in India, a Hindu temple has become famous for being the largest hair -trading centre of Asia. They collect thousands of tons of hair every day, and all of it is donated. According to the religion principles, people practicing Hinduism are advised to shave their heads at least once in their lives. Becoming bold is considered a necessary sacrifice: hair being a personal mark of pride, and by shaving it thereby offering their hair as personal work on their ego.
The temple hires 600 barbers, shaving approximately 20.000 heads every day. Most people cometo donate their hair arent even aware that the temple is selling it to factories, and many of them dont even know what hair extensions are made for.

This very lucrative economy for the Indians, since the money that has been raised from these sales so far has enabled four hospitals to open where the poor can receive free care and service 30,000 free meals per days. It also opened dozens of school and created 250 jobs directly linked to hair treatment, since the first sorting of hair is done at the temple.
