The artist travelled for over a year all over the country by himself, carrying only his precious camera. He describes his work as being the results of its lack of communication with the Chinese people, due to the language barrier: Without assistance and not being able to speak Chinese, it was hard for me to communicate with people. Therefore, I refrained from picturing humans and I focused on their environment instead.
His project Segue sends shivers down the spine: the absence of persons in the scenery creates a type of post-apocalyptic atmosphere, that is at the same time oddly very realistic. Empty footpaths, abandoned pools and deserted streets: at the same time sublime and disturbing, it looks like life has disappeared from Bakonys pictures.
Whatever effect it might have on you, it is definitely worth it to cast a glance at the following shots.
