Yogyakarta artist makes beautiful, working wooden beetle sculptures

Brilio.net/en - Yogyakarta is one of Indonesia's greatest cultural centers and home to academics and the arts. No surprise then that this city has produced Dedy Shofianto.

The 25-year-old is a graduate of the Indonesian Institute of the Arts in Yogyakarta. He works mainly in wood and is getting a reputation for his intricate mechanical insect sculptures. Dedi crafts them fromlocally-sourced tropical hardwoods like teak and pine and includes an electric motorthat powersgears for moving mandibles, wings and antennae!
