The evolution of Frankenstein’s Monster: a monster to a handsome guy

Here’s the evolution of Frankenstein’s Monster in Hollywood movies over the years.

Frankensteins Monster was first introduced in Mary Shelleys novel entitled Frankenstein or The Modern Prometheus. In the novel published in 1818, Frankenstein is described as an experimental creature by Dr. Victor Frankenstein who was obsessed about creating the perfect human. He used the body of human corpses and sewed it onto a body.

The Frankenstein story sold well in the market ever since it was released. It grabbed many attention of movie producers who wanted to turn it into a movie. Today, there have been many movies which told the story of Frankenstein. Along with it, Frankenstein Monsters appearance experienced some transformations. Frankenstein (1931) - The first movie in which the monster made an appearance. This role was taken by Boris Karloff while the makeup was done by Jack Piere in a movie that was directed by James Whale.

Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948) - In this movie, Glenn Strange starred as the monster. The makeup was carried out by Bud Westmore and Jack Kevan. They used a rubber mask to create the monster’s face.

The Curse of Frankenstein (1957) - Frankenstein’s makeup in this movie was different from the previous movie. It was designed by a makeup artist, named Phil Leakey. In this movie, the monster’s skin is seemingly more loose and flaky.

Frankenstein 1970 (1958) - Boris Karloff reprised his role as Frankenstein’s monster. But this time, the monster looks like a mummy. In the end of the movie, the real face of the monster was shown.

Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein (1994) - Frankenstein in the 90’s looks like a human with stitch scars on its face. This monster is starred by legendary artist, Robert DeNiro. The makeup work on this film gained the appreciation of the Oscars.

I, Frankenstein (2014) - The monster creation of Dr. Frankenstein was revived in early 2014 entitled I, Frankenstein. However, the character is named Adam. This experimental human looks like a superhero who is creepier than a monster.
