Next, apply the soap and baking soda paste to the crusty inside of the cup. If the crust is thick, it's best to let it sit for a few minutes so that it soaks completely. Only then scrub using a dishwashing sponge. Once it has been scrubbed, rinse the cup thoroughly under running water. Finally, wash the cup as usual. That way the cup will return to being shiny and rough. Without needing extra effort or energy, you can use your old cup with a new look.

As mentioned, baking soda contains a number of active ingredients that can remove stains. Reporting from southernliving.com, baking soda has a slightly abrasive texture. When you rub baking soda on limescale, the particles work to scrape and loosen the deposits that are firmly stuck to the cup. That way, the crust can come off easily. On the other hand, baking soda is alkaline. Tea and coffee crust often contains acidic compounds that can be broken down by alkaline substances. The reaction between baking soda and acidic compounds in the crust helps dissolve and remove these deposits.
