Tricks for boiling jengkol so that it is soft and odor-free with the addition of 2 kitchen ingredients

Easy way to make soft jengkol and reduce the smell with simple kitchen ingredients Nadhifah

Brilio.net - Jengkol is a unique food ingredient. Although the aroma is not very pleasant, jengkol can taste delicious if processed properly. Before being processed, jengkol is usually boiled to make it softer and to reduce its distinctive odor.

For maximum results, jengkol can be boiled with additional spices. Bay leaves are often used because they can neutralize the smell and eliminate the bitter taste of jengkol.

However, there are also other kitchen ingredients that can be added to the jengkol boiled water. Like what TikTok user @hasanudinhas4 did, who in his video used bay leaves and two other kitchen ingredients when boiling jengkol. According to him, this method is effective in removing the unpleasant odor of jengkol.

As reported by BrilioFood from TikTok @hasanudinhas4 on Friday (25/10), the kitchen ingredients used are lime leaves and lemongrass.

First, put the washed jengkol into the pan. Once done, pour water until the entire surface of the jengkol is submerged.

Before turning on the stove, add a few pieces of lime leaves, two stalks of crushed lemongrass, and five pieces of bay leaves. Don't forget to add sugar and salt to make the jengkol taste even more delicious.

"Then we cook it for 10 minutes using high heat," he said further.

To make the jengkol soft and perfectly cooked, cover the pan during the boiling process. After boiling for 10 minutes, turn off the stove. Without needing to open the pan lid, let the jengkol soak in the boiling water for 15 minutes.

After letting it sit for 15 minutes, turn on the heat to medium and boil the jengkol again with the pan covered for 10 minutes.

"After boiling for 10 minutes, we let it sit for another 15 minutes," he said.

Drain the jengkol after it has been left for 15 minutes. It looks like the jengkol is perfectly cooked, even the skin has peeled off by itself. Rinse the jengkol with water until clean.

Once done, drain the jengkol. Because it has been boiled using the three types of spices, the smell of jengkol is gone without a trace.

"The result is very soft and doesn't smell," he said.
