Adrenaline-filled Snorkeling on the South Beach of Gunungkidul

Known for its big waves, people still brave the waters of this beach near Yogyakarta Fadila Adelin

Brilio.net/en - Snorkeling in Indonesia is mostly associated with renowned dive spots such as Bunaken, Pulau Komodo or even Raja Ampat. But what if we told you that you can also experience great snorkeling in the south coast of Java?

If youre interested, you can do so by heading out to Nglambor Beach in Gunungkidul. But be warned, parts of the beach has waves that are bigger than other snorkeling spots in Indonesia! Luckily, there are a couple of spots where reefs further out in the ocean can create breaks far from the beach, and therefore calming the huge waves.

The shallow parts of Nglambor Beach have crystal clear waters allowing visitors to see colorful fishes, seaweed, and corals with their naked eye. There are a couple of reefs thats shaped like turtles. Those reefs serve as a break for the waves and also houses for numerous small fishes.

The beach itself has a complete set of facilities with toilets and food stalls. Entry to the beach is quite cheap, which is only IDR 5,000. Snorkeling equipment can also be rented at the beach for a price that ranges from IDR 50.000 300.000, depending on the number of people who want to snorkel.
