Truly a baby miracle!Ivana Lucic 25 May 2016 14:52
Brilio.net - An Indian couple in Haryana just recently celebrated the birth of their first son, after 46 years of marriage. Both Daljinder Kaur and her husband are in their 70s but the elderly woman can’t be too sure of her age as she doesn’t have a birth certificate, which isn’t all too uncommon in India.
Anurag Bishnoi, embryologist and owner of the National Fertility and Test Tube Baby centre in Hisar, told the Guardian he believed she could be 72. “She has said she is five to seven years younger than her husband, and his birth certificate shows he was born on 12/04/1937,” he said.
In a country where infertility is sometimes seen as a curse, the couple has truly experienced a miracle, with a little help from in-vetro fertilization.
“God heard our prayers. My life feels complete now,” she told Agence France-Presse from the northern city of Amritsar. “I am looking after the baby all by myself. I feel so full of energy. My husband is also very caring and helps me as much as he can.”
The procedure was conducted by an experienced embryologist, who successfully got a 70-year old woman pregnant for the first time and helped a 66-year old woman conceive triplets in recent years. Bisnoi was initially reluctant to go forth with the procedure as Kaur looked frail but her physical exams proved that she was healthy. On her third attempt the donor eggs finally worked and the couple conceived a son. It’s a great celebration of joy as Kaur’s brother also wasn’t able to conceive children and adoptions is not allowed for couples over 45 in India.
Family issues have always plagued the couple as they had adopted a son but he moved to the US to study and the elderly couple hasn’t heard from him since. Furthermore, Gill, Danjider’s husband, had to take his dad to court over a law that states that a person who is infertile is not given a piece of land by his father. He won the case and was able to use that money towards the IVF treatment that eventually gave him a healthy baby boy.
Arman was born weighing a healthy 2 kg (4.4 pounds) and is sure to live a life full of love.
